Location: Waving Goodbye

  1. Start by trying to figure out the order the sailors are standing in by noticing when the same person appears in multiple shots.
  2. This looks like a familiar flag code except that most of the sailors are holding just a single flag. Where must the second flag be if it can’t be seen?
  3. We appear to be looking at the back of the sailors’ heads so need to adjust for that when deciphering the code.
  4. FEED DOG

Part I: A Voyage to Lilliput

  1. Start by filling in answers to the clues. They are all two words.
  2. The first three clues for Lilliput are ANT IMAGE, STUN GHOST and FUN DOODLES. Do any of the answers on Blefuscu look similar?
  3. Each answer on Blefuscu can be matched with an answer on Lilliput with identical letters but different word breaks.
  4. Do any of the letters in the answers jump out as being special in some way? Perhaps these letters are important.
  5. The different word breaks between the two islands are only a single letter different each time. What happens if you look at these letters?
  6. Reading the Lilliput letters in order gives PIG DUCK GOAT. Reading the Blefuscu letters spells GOAT PIG DUCK. What might these refer to?
  7. The phrases tell you which animals to “tri counting”. Is there something on your code sheet related to “tri”
  8. Counting the number of the specified animals in each farm is ternary for the final answer. Note there is a different order for each island.
  9. BAD COOKS
  10. THE EGG RULES

Part II: A Voyage to Brobdingnag

  1. There are 10 giants in total and each appears in either the first or the last row.
  2. Notice that any correct giants in row 3 are in the right place whereas any from rows 1 and 5 are in the wrong place.
  3. The five giants in the line up are ARASH, ELDRIC, RENZO, UBONG and WALTRUD. But you’ll need to make sure they are in the right order.
  4. To get the final extraction note the bolded words in the flavour text.
  5. Read the first and last letters of each giant’s name.
  6. A HUGE CROWD

Part III: A Voyage to Laputa, Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Glubbdubdrib and Japan

  1. Traversing the numbered bridges in the direction of the arrow causes words to transform. The first step is to work out what each transformation is.
  2. Bridge 3 transforms a word into a homophone and Bridge 9 changes the first two letters to PI.
  3. 1: Shape, 2: Add a hole, 3: Homophone, 4: 3 up in sequence, 5: Animal associated with, 6: Collective noun, 7: Flag of, 8: 3rd member of group, 9: First 2 letters -> PI
  4. MARBLE
  5. Once you have all the bridge transformations figure out what happens when you apply them in order to the substance the scientists are transforming.
  6. MARBLE -> SPHERE -> TORUS -> TAURUS -> LEO -> LION -> PRIDE -> RAINBOW -> YELLOW -> PILLOW
  7. PILLOW

Part IV: A Voyage to the Land of the Houyhnhnms

  1. Translating what the horse is saying should give you five mini puzzles to solve. Each gives you 4 letters of the final answer. Note that the answer to each minipuzzle may be just a word fragment.
  2. This horse number system looks familiar… I feel I’ve seen it somewhere before, maybe when I visited the Colosseum?
  3. 1: ITEM TO GROOM MANE BUT FORWARD 16
  4. 1: COMB -> Caesar shift 16 -> SECR
  5. 2: ENGLISH WORD MEAN SPEED OR JUDGE BUT BACKWARDS
  6. RATE -> ETAR
  7. CODE 2 SMALL, SMALL AND BIG, BIG, 3 SMALL
  8. Morse code with small for dot and big for dash: IATS
  9. BALE NO FIRST LETTER AND HAY FIRST LETTER
  10. ALEH
  11. LETTER 15 21 19 5
  12. Alphanumeric conversion: OUSE
  13. SECRETARIAT’S ALEHOUSE

Meta

  1. Have you got your scissors and the 6 feeder sheets?
  2. The 6 locations Gulliver visited in the feeder puzzles can be assembled into a map (2x3).
  3. Do you notice anything written in the middle of the map?
  4. The message which appears when the map is assembled says DRAWINGS. Look closely at the drawings on the feeder puzzles.
  5. Each drawing contains a word in Braille and two letters.
  6. The Braille words, taken in order from top to bottom of the map, spell FIND LTRS IN ANS MAKE DOTS
  7. Does the map have any similarities to anything on your code sheet?
  8. The map forms a Braille cell. By looking at which feeder answers contain the letters hidden in the drawings you can extract the final answer. For example, the first hidden letter is H which appears in the top right, middle left and bottom left answers making the Braille character S.
  9. SWIFT TRAVELS

Bonus: Gulliver’s Ship

  1. Do any answers to the clues have anything in common with the labelled bits of the ship?
  2. A stick that’s hard to get rid of is a BOOMERANG
  3. BOOM-ERANG
  4. Each clue contains one of the labelled parts of the ship within it (it could be at the beginning, end or in the middle).
  5. The parts of the ship labelled in the picture are (top-to-bottom, left-to-right): MAST, SAIL, JIB, BOW, AFT, FORE, PORT, BOOM, STERN.
  6. The answers to the clues, in order, are BOOMERANG, DJIBOUTI, OVERDRAFT, WESTERN, ASSAILANT, FOREST, PORTUGAL, SUPER BOWL, MASTER.
  7. By writing each clue in the appropriate place you can figure out which letter to extract from each word.
  8. ADVENTURE
